課程概述

Course Description

Designed and led by experienced freelance interpreters, this course allows students to engage in carefully-crafted interpreting scenarios that faithfully simulate assignments and challenges students will soon face when they graduate in a few months and enter the market as a professional interpreter. These scenarios demand a deep integration of knowledge of interpersonal communications, interpreting skills, problem-solving techniques, and commitment to ethical practices to achieve satisfactory interpreting results. Students will understand the specific demands of each of the interpreting scenarios presented, and are encouraged to discuss and verify different solutions in response to these demands.

Course Objectives

1. Prepare students for the “reality” of working as a professional interpreter.
2. Provide a safe environment that encourages students to think critically about how to best utilize resources including interpreting skills, socio-emotional competencies, and business acumen and ethics to respond to real-life challenges.

 
課程要求
Requirements:
1. Students must realize that “the answer” often does not exist in the scenarios or challenges presented in this course, and that each of them, depending on one’s unique combination of various strengths and resources, will need to come up with their own answer and continue to learn from others.
2. Students must be prepared to own the process of learning by trial and error, and understand that the instructors are the facilitators of this learning process, not leaders.
